4 Best Coffee Shops in Amish Country

It’s 8 am — the family woke up early today on your getaway to Ohio’s Amish Country. Of course, your vacation rental with Your Family’s Place is well-stocked with local coffee and cooking basics to fuel your day. The morning before, you enjoyed sitting on the wooden rocking chair in our Cottage at Maple Pond, sipping a cup of Joe, and gazing at the landscapes through the sun-soaked windows.

But this morning, you’re looking for something different. A way to calmly pass the time with a coffee before diving into that busy itinerary of exploring East Central Ohio’s best kid-friendly activities or adult-centric winery tours.

Our advice? Check out the region’s incredible local coffee shops. Whether you’re in a rush and need a quick joe to go or crave a serene coffee shop experience to enjoy with your loved ones — we’ve got you covered with the best coffee shops in Ohio’s Amish Country.

Daily Grind

Boasting coffee bean blends from Tanzania, Colombia, Papua New Guinea, and Guatemala, as well as artisanal tea lattes, the Daily Grind knows its coffee & tea. Makes sense, considering they’ve been around since 1995, originally launched inside a former shoe shop.

New Philadelphia, Ohio, is known as the state’s first Christian town. Brimming with religious and settler historical tidbits and gorgeous landscapes from its base along the Tuscarawas River.

But even the biggest history buffs need their cup of joe.

Trust us; even the kiddos will find something to enjoy. The shop doubles down as a lunch bistro, diner, and bakery all in one, with delicious menu items like the Smoked Gouda Salad, Cinnamon Glazed French Toast, the Raspberry White Chocolate Puff Cakes — oh my!

Looking for weekend brunch? Try their classic breakfast burrito. Plus, the staff are always so friendly that even your morning coffee will feel blessed with a little extra soul and kindness.

Back to the coffee — take your pick. Try a Mega Mint Mocha for a midday pick me up, or enjoy a shot of espresso in one of their decadent coffee drinks like the Toffee Turtle Latte. If it’s got coffee, the Daily Grind makes it.

Magic Mugs

Did your grandparents ever mention that 1947 film noir, My Favorite Brunette? That funny yet scandalous plotline was from Elliot Nungent, a famous actor and director from Dover, Ohio! Maybe the film history brought you there — or perhaps the Warther Museum for locomotive history.

Wherever your Dover trip takes you, you won’t get far without a caffeine stop to fuel your day. Magic Mugs is the perfect morning destination before a trip to the Warther Museum or a local hiking trail.

But it’s not just a great coffee shop. It’s a community hub boasting walls with local art, board games, and even tarot readings. The coffee menu also shows dreamy creations like color-changing lavender lemonade, rich creme brulee latte, and honey-vanilla matcha iced lattes. Yum!

Come with an appetite because you’ll feel an instant hug with a grilled turkey BLT, creamy potato soup, veggie-hummus sandwich, or choices of baked goods.

Wallhouse Coffee

If you’re craving a more fulsome breakfast with your cup of coffee, Wallhouse Coffee in Sugarcreek is sure to impress. Our advice? Satisfy the hangry travelers in your group with a quick bite here. Start with the breakfast bowl — made with freshly cracked eggs (local, of course!), jalapenos, avocado, bacon, and indulgent sour cream. But if you’re the sweeter type, the Crazy Banana Crepe or Strawberry-Pecan Oatmeal are fab picks.

Not to mention the baked goods treats behind the window. Seriously, those chocolate chips on the muffins look handmade.

But if you’re after baked goods, just try to show up early. We’ve seen them sell out of some of our favorites after 12 pm.

Rustic, wooden interiors and genuine smiles greet you at the New Philadelphia location of Biggby Coffee. We know; it’s another chain. But hear us out. The service? Fast. We’re talking about efficient staff members who work tirelessly but make it look effortless.

As for the coffee? This chain is known for its smooth yet strong blends. But you can sweeten the deal with some of their more elaborate, sweet drinks. Sweet foam caramel iced latte, anyone? Banana boost smoothie with Greek yogurt? Why not get a famous chocolate chip cookie as well? Indulge a little — you deserve it!

Soul Sisters Cafe

Baked goods and coffee go together like, well. Soul Sisters. This Zoar, Ohio shop has a rotating starting line up of fresh baked goods Tuesday through Saturday. Chocolate Chip and Cranberry Pecan Scones are classics.

They are as serious about their affogatos as they are their beloved pastries. A brown sugar espresso or Campfire Latte with graham crackers and marshmallows are best enjoyed in their classically Amish Country Farmhouse style lounge area.

Amish Country Donuts & Cafe

Spend a few days in Amish Country and you’ll quickly find that everything here is done with an artisan touch. Giant sourdough donuts and classic wraps are the appetizers to the main attraction at Amish Country Donuts & Cafe – the best cup of coffee in Sugarcreek.

Owned by a young local couple, the cafe exudes traditional modern charm. Their coffee menu brings cold brew with a touch of Kentucky bourbon syrup, coffee or tea lattes, and espresso in all its varieties (whisked with sugar, steamed with microfoam, or straight up!).
