Corn Maze Boltz Farms

Only a short drive from New Philadelphia, Ohio, Boltz Farms is home to an assortment of adorable farm animals, from geese with Washington-esque hairdos to majestic brown cows grazing the feels.

And if you visit in the fall months? Boltz Farms turns their 7-acre corn field into seasonal corn mazes — including one giant maze that’ll entertain all-aged travelers and a kiddie maze for a more laid back, simple experience. The gamified aspect adds a touch of fun-hearted competition to your outing, but the farm setting helps you stay present and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Once you’re done? You’ll be rewarded with pumpkins, a straw mountain sight, and ample food truck offerings to fuel up after your trek.

This is also an excellent opportunity to pick up some farm-fresh items you can’t dream of finding at the grocery store. Pick from grass-fed beef, pastured pork, and fresh produce. Bring some staples home for a lunchtime BBQ at Your Family’s Place rentals.

Farm at Walnut Creek

The Farm at Walnut Creek is a traditional Amish farm that houses non-electric farmhouses and Amish homes, inviting visitors to a simpler, organic way of life. This isn’t just a haven for traditional farm animals like pigs, goats, and cows. They also have a whole petting zoo of exotic animals — giraffes, zebras, turtles, and camels are also onsite!

Think of the healing, wholesome experience you could share with your family here. You can purchase feed buckets for a mere $3.00, helping you connect with the land’s animals. Plus, you can sit back and enjoy a full tour of the grounds with an exciting wagon ride—the Farm also offers tours of other Amish activities, like quilting, baking, and canning.

Lantern Tour Schoebrunn Village

New Philadelphia’s Schoebrunn Village was founded in 1772 as a Moravian Mission — one of Ohio’s first Christian settlements. You’ll find reconstructed log home structures and a historic cemetery that echoes tidbits of the past for today’s visitors.

The onsite museum and guided tours teach you about American Indian history and daily life in the late 1700s. But every September, the Schoebrunn Village hosts a lantern walk. This dreamy, guided evening tour shares the story of 18th-century Moravian settlers approaching the American Revolution. Tickets are affordable for children and adults at $6 and $8, respectively.

Did you miss the September Lantern Tour? Not to worry; the Schoenbrunn Village presents another fall event in October: the Trade Faire. Budding historians and theater buffs will love this event.

Imagine the hustle-bustle of village life in 1770. The Trade Faire aims to recreate every experience, including musket demonstrations, bagpipe shows, historical talks, and historical characters in 18th-century garb giving talks and tours.

What about the “trade” aspect? Well, you might not carry much to barter — but you can still shop at the village vendors for historical charms, knick-knacks, and antiques to bring back home with you.

Swiss Festival

It’s worth planning a trip on the September 28th weekend this year. Why? Because you’ll get to relish three full days of the infamous Ohio Swiss Festival! If you’re a shower yodeller, it’s time to take that talent to the front lines at the Swiss Costume and Yodelling contests! This three-day fall festival is jam-packed with Swiss-inspired activities, like the traditional stone-throwing game Steinhossen.

Expect tractor pulls and kiddie parades for a family-friendly itinerary and craft-beer tastings for the adults looking to let loose a little and try local brews! Don’t forget to stop by the landmark cuckoo clock!

Atwood Lake Festival

Mineral City, Ohio, is home to the tranquil Atwood Lake Park inside the Tuscarawas and Carroll Counties. This is the best spot for pleasure boating and sailing in Ohio’s Amish Country.

But each fall, the region hosts an exciting festival filled with local food and craft vendors, arts and crafts, and folky rock musicians amidst a gorgeous natural backdrop of trees and the shimmering shoreline.

You’ll even catch a comedy, hypnotist, and ventriloquist show among the performances this year! Our advice? Book our newly renovated Middlehaven property in Dover — just a 10-minute drive from Atwood Lake Park!

Algonquin Mill Festival

How do chicken BBQ and biscuits sound to you? Is that your stomach grumbling (OK, maybe ours too)! That’s just a taste of what awaits at the Algonquin Mill Festival, along with sweet treats like apple dumplings, satisfying cornmeal, and buttery pancakes.

Sit back and take in the wholesome sounds of country and blues bands as you “cheers” with your loved ones with some hot apple cider. The kiddos will love the horse-drawn wagon rides and antique car shows, complete with steam-powered engines and even a tractor demonstration! Don’t forget to take home a craft, like a handmade candle or soap.

Halloween Parades

Care for a touch of nostalgia this Halloween? Nothing says wholesome more than a high school marching band. Imagine that only every instrument player is rocking a Halloween costume! That’s the traditional Halloween parade that takes place each year in Downtown Dover.

But if you’re looking for a spookier vibe? Check out the Reeves Museum for a superstitious tour with a Victorian twist. Check with local community boards for other Halloween events, too!

Tuscarawas County Fair

Are you traveling with animal lovers in your group? Imagine a crisp morning with chickens, ducks, turkeys, hogs, and lambs on full display!

The Tuscarawas County Fair hosts endless animal shows that demonstrate these incredible creatures’ absolute cuteness and grandeur. Each day showcases different animals, like the poultry show on the first festival day to the dairy goats and cows on the second and third days. Expect pygmy goats and rabbits on the roster as well!

Your kids will enjoy standard festival rides, a tractor pull, and homemade local grub at concession stands. And the piece de resistance? An impressive horse show, complete with cowboy hats, races, and jumps!
